Working with
Coaches

It can be very difficult for coaches to know how to introduce players to the mental side of the game and how to integrate sport psychology into their coaching practice. Common concerns coaches have are:

What is appropriate for my team’s age and level and what is not?

What ways can mental skills be incorporated into training and on match day?

Will my players be overloaded with information?

Dan can work with you to help you improve the delivery of the psychological and social components of soccer. This work generally falls into three main areas: coaching and player psychology, coaching methodology, and organisational culture.

Within these areas Dan can support you in multiple ways, depending on your requirements, including:

  • Personal effectiveness – getting to know yourself and establishing your unique identity as a coach
  • Environment – building an optimal environment around your players to help them feel valued and engage more
  • Mental skills – delivering sport psychology skills that enhance player development and performance under pressure
  • Coaching practice – being a better teacher of people, helping players learn more effectively and preparing players for game day
  • Coach-athlete relationships – strengthening and maintaining relationships with players
  • Leadership – developing your personal leadership style and the leadership capabilities of your players
  • Teamship – building a team identity and helping players play together
  • Managing Individual differences – managing the personality characteristics, motivation, emotion and attitude of your players
  • Skill development – techniques to help players develop skill more easily and improve adaptability
  • Processes and Systems – Developing processes and systems to help your organisation work together

In short, Dan will continually ask you these three critical questions to help you develop and grow your coaching practice: “What do we want? How are we going to get there? Why are we doing what we’re doing (are we doing the right things)?”

Why Work with
Dan

Why work with Dan

Over the past 15 years Dan has been engaged by Premier League clubs and other top tier teams to work with their players and their coaching staff. He has subsequently worked with some of the game’s leading coaches and managers.

Whilst much of his time is spent with coaches at the elite level, Dan is still passionate about helping younger players and enjoys working with coaches at academies, colleges and at grassroots.

Drawing on his experiences at all levels of the game, Dan knows the tools and techniques that deliver a positive and often immediate impact and is able to tailor solutions to your unique coaching challenges.

Having been a sports coach himself in golf, Dan knows the challenges coaches face and has first-hand knowledge of the skills required to influence and change behaviour.

What to expect

Dan can work with you one-to-one or alongside your team or the whole organisation. He can do so in person and/or via Skype/online depending on your location and preference. Dan offers a range of packages from a single session right through to engagements that last for a season or even for several years.
