March saw me visit four schools presenting to A level and BTEC PE students at both AS and A2 level. A big love of mine is to bring the subject of sport psychology alive for students and I continue to be entrusted by school staff to do just that.
The presentations lasted an hour and were packed with games, practicals, videos and interactive discussion. Hot topics included the practical use of imagery, how to help elite sports competitors to focus their mind, the role of the leader, and team building. To help cement understanding I always make sure I focus on linking the theory students learn during their course with practical application.
Having had a long relationship with Harefield Academy the Vice Principal asked me to address the whole sixth form. I was honoured to present for half an hour on the psychology of success focusing on key success principles of “Taking Responsibility”, “Building a Team Around You” and “Dealing with Negative Thoughts”. The students were brilliant and were actively involved asking questions and taking notes.
I’ve got plenty more school visits planned for the summer…I can’t wait!
